Duende Travel was founded in 1995 by Peter Watson and Kate Littlewood. Peter was educated at Oxford University where he studied French and Spanish language and literature. He has worked in the travel business for over 25 years. Kate studied at Cambridge University, also in French and Spanish, and joined the Footlights where she began her career as a classical actress.

After several years working in various areas of travel Peter and Kate formed Duende Travel to try to produce cultural walking tours with exceptional standards. We remain committed to detailed personal research of all our walks, superb leaders and the use of local resources, to complement the skills of our own staff. The result, we believe, are walking tours of the highest quality available anywhere.

‘Duende’ is a Spanish word meaning a ‘spirit’ or ‘muse’. It marks the difference between good and great, a moment of grace or a spirit of place. In choosing the word as the name for our business we have set ourselves the highest possible standards.
